1998 Opinion Poll - Education

This year the Joint Center national poll showed a decline in both black and white support for school vouchers. Among blacks, support varied by age group and geographical location. Although there was majority support for a means-tested voucher system, on other aspects of vouchers, such as their monetary value, there seems to be significant uncertainty and disagreement.

According to Joint Center researcher David Bositis, who conducted the study, "While the school voucher program is considered by some as one of the hot-button issues in the November elections, it is clear from the responses that many people have not even given much thought to how much they could contribute to supplement the vouchers."
