This Design Lab provided teams with the opportunity to explore Martin Luther King, Jr. County’s Equity and Social Justice Initiative’s progress. In addition, teams reviewed issues of poverty as well as the challenges and strategies to achieve health equity for the Hispanic population.

U.S. Capitol, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), convened a briefing on infant mortality, co-sponsored by HPI, featuring medical professionals from across the country who gathered to discuss the problem of infant mortality in the United States.

At this Design Lab, the teams went on a tour to learn about the Delta’s SDOH challenges/progress and how their lessons learned can be applied to other PLACE MATTERS sites. They also engaged in team building activities and worked on strategies to sustain the Place Matters Initiative on a county/city level.

A stimulating learning experience convening, particularly stimulating as the Bernalillo County (Albuquerque) Team put together a three-hour learning excursion to add to the PM Teams knowledge base and understanding of social determinants of health.

The Dellums Commission rolls out a series of background papers and recommendations aimed at fostering the improvement of the quality of life for young men of color.

The teams participated in the Design Lab city tour, featuring a New Orleans still recovering from Hurricane Katrina. They also further developed county strategy plans to address social determinants of health, and explored resource options to promote sustainability of their Place Matters county/city strategies and project plans.

A convening of young men was held to discuss reproductive health strategies that impact young men of color. The event was sponsored by HPI, in cooperation with the Academy for Educational Development, and The Young Men's Clinic.

The inaugural Design Lab introducing the new Place Matters teams to the Joint Center Health Policy Institute's initative to promote the fair health movement.

A Place That Matters: A discussion on health policy between our elected officials and the experts. This event was hosted by the Prince George's County Team in conjunction with The Maryland Center at Bowie State University.

A convening, co-sponsored by HPI and the University of Michigan in support of HPI's Courage to Love Commission. The convening examined the infant mortality rate analysis, basic assumptions, and possibilities for action.

The Dellums Commission held its first public meeting to provide context to a series of background commissioned by HPI, to address the limited options facing young men of color.
