The Cuyahoga County PLACE MATTERS Team is hosting a speakers series this fall revolving around issues of health equity, civic engagement and "why place matters". The most recent talk, on Tuesday November 29, 2011, featured Ron Sims, Former Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Mr. Sims discussed how communities can advance health equity through land use planning and "place-based strategies." The first speaker in the series, was Dr. Gail Christopher, Vice President of Programs ad the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Dr. Christopher lead a discussion revolving around the 24-year difference in life expectancy among Cleveland residents, and how this relates to "place matters." The King County Department of Public Health recently launched the "Let's Do This" campaign - an initiative aimed at encouraging King County residents "to work together for healthier places to live, learn, work and play." To learn more about this exciting campaign, click here.
On June 21st, the Baltimore City PLACE MATTERS Team, in collaboration with Morgan State University, held an Equity Summit in downtown Baltimore.
