DataBank

DataBank offers you fast access to current and trend data on a comprehensive range of information about our nation's population. Comparable data on African Americans and other racial and ethnic populations are standard features. In addition to tabulations from the Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Centers for Disease Control, National Center for Education Statistics and other major federal agencies, DataBank also presents facts and figures from the Joint Center's unique research on minority business and black elected officials, and from its annual National Opinion Polls.

Did You Know?

In 2006, blacks made up 22 percent of the U.S. Army overall, but comprised only 12.3 percent of the officer corps and between seven and eight percent of the combat arms officers. The combat arms branches represent the principal pipeline to the Army's senior ranks. In 1990, blacks were 29.1 percent of the Army, but only 11 percent of the officer corps.
