The New Joint Center Health Policy Institute Web Site Section will be Coming Soon.

The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies has conducted research and analyses in the field of health since 1991. Consistent with its mission, the Joint Center's health-related work has emphasized both research and dissemination activities with the dual goals of helping to narrow gaps related to health care, and improving the health outcomes for African Americans and other racial/ethnic subpopulations. Work has been conducted in the following areas: health status of women of color, reproductive health of African American adolescents, environmental health, access to health care, HIV/AIDS prevention, health status of African Americans, immigration/segregation and health, implications of managed care on access to health services, costs of teen pregnancy, costs of teen pregnancy prevention, and synergy between the health sector and community economic development.

In 2002, the W. K. Kellogg Foundation awarded the Joint Center a $7million grant to establish a Health Policy Institute (UNDER CONSTRUCTION) that would contribute to improving the health of underserved and diverse people by informing policy and sharing promising practices. The Joint Center' s health policy agenda has expanded accordingly, with work recently completed on men of color and community-based strategies for reducing health disparities.
