On Tuesday, June 9, Rep. Barbara Lee, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, joined other members of the Tri-caucus at the U.S. Capitol in announcing legislation to address health disparities. She cites comments from Dr. Brian G. Smedley, Vice President and Director of the Joint Center Health Policy Institute. The legislation is Health Equity and Accountability Act of 2009. WASHINGTON – Long time civil rights leader Dr. Dorothy I. Height, whose activism and influence spans nearly eight decades, became the first woman to receive the Louis E. Martin Great American Award from the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, which was presented to her April 21 at the organization’s Annual Gala.
