Joint Center Appoints New Vice President for Development

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Eddie N. Williams, president of the Joint Center, today announced the appointment of William A. Allen as vice president for development. Allen will be responsible for all Joint Center fundraising ventures and succeeds Kathleen Vander Horst who spearheaded the operations for 24 years.
In welcoming Mr. Allen, President Williams, said: "Bill Allen brings the experience, intellect and aggressive spirit that we need to build on the excellent foundation laid by Kathleen Vander Horst."
Mr. Allen comes to the Joint Center from the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) where he held several senior positions, including executive vice president for national programs, executive vice president, general counsel and secretary to the UNCF corporation, and associate director of the New York and New Jersey offices. During his tenure, he supervised national fundraising programs, special events fundraising such as the "Evening of Stars" (formerly the Lou Rawls Parade of Stars), corporate and foundation fundraising, planned giving, and individual fundraising.
Previous positions include assistant district attorney for King's County, Brooklyn, NY, and associate partner in the New York office of the law firm Covington, Howard, Hagood and Holland.
Mr. Allen holds a bachelor of arts degree in history from Atlantic Union College (South Lancaster, MA), a law degree from Boston University, and a certificate in advanced management from the Yale University School of Organization and Management.
The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, conducts research and analysis on public policy issues of concern to African Americans and other minorities, and promotes their involvement in the governance process.
