About the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies

The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies (the Joint Center), America’s Black think tank, provides compelling and actionable policy solutions to eradicate persistent and evolving barriers to the complete freedom of Black people in America. We are the trusted forum for leading experts and scholars to participate in primary public policy debates and promote ideas that advance Black communities. We use evidence-based research, analysis, convenings, and strategic communications to support Black communities and a network of allies. Currently, the Joint Center focuses on the future of work in Black communities, the impact of economic policies on Black communities in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, technology policy and Black communities, and congressional staff diversity. 

The Opportunity

The Joint Center seeks a full-time staff member to serve as the Chief of Staff.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as a leading thought partner with the President in strategies and priorities for the organization 
  • Works with the President to enhance overall team efficiency
  • Identify areas of improvement across the organization and make actionable recommendations
  • Assess inquiries directed to the President and determine their priority and the proper course of action
  • Provide analysis and risk assessment when making critical business decisions
  • Complete special projects and initiatives with skillful oversight and support
  • Serve as the President’s lead liaison for high-level partners

Qualifications

  • Culture and mission-driven – extremely passionate about the Joint Center’s mission of using research to eradicate barriers to the full freedom of Black people in the United States
  • At least 15 years of professional experience, with at least five or more years in a leadership role
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills 
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite

Compensation & Benefits

Commensurate with experience, the salary for this position is $200,000-220,000. Benefits include 100% employer-sponsored healthcare, dental, and vision; as well as STD, LTD, and life insurance coverage. After one year of employment, up to a five percent match in our 403(b) plan. Generous PTO, quarterly mental health days, and no-meeting Fridays.
