Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, who has gained national attention for his innovative approaches to governing during a challenging economy, will receive the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies’ 2012 Louis E. Martin Great American Award at the organization’s Annual Gala Dinner on May 1, at the Mandarin Oriental in Washington, DC.
The Joint Center, a Washington, DC research and policy institution that has supported African American leadership for more than four decades, will honor Mayor Reed for his assertive leadership in improving public services in Atlanta, Georgia, while bolstering the city government’s financial position, as well as his efforts to bridge racial divides.
